Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Katie'
Katie: Hi, thanks for contacting Zend. This is Katie in Sales, how can I help you?
you: is anybody there that can discuss problems with internal debugging with ZS 5.5?
you: I just upgraded from 5.1 and it's...well, broken
Katie: what is your user name?
you: tony.bibbs@iowa.gov
Katie: Hey Tony - how are you?
Katie: Let me see if Jacob can help you out
you: slightly annoyed with this upgrade
Katie: have you logged a ticket yet?
you: nah, I'm not sure if it's a real ticket issue or dumb-user error ;-)
Katie: did you load ZP?
Katie: with Studio 5.5 you need to run ZP 3 for the debugging
you: you need ZP to debug locally?
you: not remote debugging. I'm talking debugging locally
Katie: ok - so accourding to my tech you dont need it - what is going on?
you: I'm trying to debug a URL like http://localhost/somescript.php
you: I type that in the "browser" tab and hit the "debug next page" option and nothing happens
Katie: checking
Katie: No...To do what he wants requires the Zend Platform
Katie: [13:40] Jacob: Debug URL requires Platform and Studio Pro
Katie: see I was correct - you need to configure ZP on your server
you: Ok, so I need to buy separate ZP licenses to go with our ZS licenses?
Katie: its nc for development
you: nc?
Katie: not for development
you: k, when I went through the zend platform installation it asks for a key
you: ...what am I suppose to put there?
Katie: only for production - here is what you do - download the current rev and from the ZP gui - choose license manager - and click on the acquire license
Katie: it will send a request off to us that you are getting a dev license and you will be up and running
you: ok, next problem is going to be we use APC for opcode caching and shared memory support
you: ZP and APC, amazingly enough, don't like one another
you: is there a way to disable ZO and use APC instead?
Katie: no
you: That's a problem as there is no Zend product that provide shared memory support, is there?
Katie: I am check with my support team but I dont think so
you: ...this will be a bigger problem with PHP6 when APC is bundled by default
Katie: we are working on that
you: on APC support or shared memory support?
you: ..or both
Katie: the PHP6 and APC bundle issue - let me check on the shared memory issue
you: Let me voice my dissatisfaction with the ZP installation then. It should explicitly ask if the installation is for a production of development server and then grab the development license key in the case we need one. I shouldn't have to explicitly ask for a key when it can all be done during the install. If you are going through that process for the first time it leaves a strong impression you must purchase ZP
you: ...consider that constructive criticism
you: had I known that I would have save a few hours of tinkering today
Katie: I will forward it on to the product manager
you: Just an FYI you *don't* need Zend Platform to use the external debugger
you: turns out if you get the Zend Debugger (for eclipse) you don't need ZP and I can still have APC
you: Did you know that?
you: I hope that is just something I accidentally stumbled on that you folks just didn't know about
you: ...that's much more agreeable than installing all that heavy ZP stuff
you: Because this way I can manage what ever versions of Apache and PHP5 I want without (e.g. no need for Zend Core)
Katie: There are many different projects going on here at Zend
you: right but when you tell someone you need ZP and that's not true
you: ...it's a bit frustrating
Katie: perhaps I should have transferred this to the support team
Katie: I was just trying to help and get you a quick answer
