Off the Market…well, at least MLS.

June 15, 2004

That\'s right, after frustration with selling our place we have decided to forego looking for a new place until we get our house sold. As part of this we have decided to part ways with the Remax realtor we were using, Ralph Stonehocker. I won\'t ding Ralph too much but I will say he let us down in a few aspects. First, I think there were a few times where he could have been frank and told his how he felt and he didn\'t. Second, he clearly over estimated what our start price should have...

Concurrent PHP4 and PHP5 Development

June 10, 2004

Where I work we develop a lot of our applications using PHP. PHP4 has been stable for quite a few years and now that PHP5 is in it's second release candidate it is a good time to start thinking about making the switch. This poses an interesting delimna for developers as you will want to have access to both the PHP4 and PHP5 interpreter without having to modify your Apache or IIS configuration. You can get around this problem in one of a f ew ways. I offer up this article that can get...

Running PHP4 and PHP5 Concurrently

June 8, 2004

This is just a quick note for the sake of cataloging what I hope will save others some time in the future. At work and in my personal time I have begun to split my programming time between PHP4 and PHP5. To make myself a bit more efficient I have decided to run to instances of Apache one configured with PHP4, the other running PHP5. This is all being done on a <a href=\"http://www.suse.com\">SuSE 9.0</a> laptop. I\'m not going to go too far indepth as I found <a href=\"http://www.sitepoint.com/blog-post-view.php?id=159852&\">this article</a> that gives you a few...

Lauryn\’s Here (Finally!)

May 14, 2004

I don't have much time to give a full recount of the happenings so bare with me. Lauryn Jessica Bibbs was born 5/13 and was 9 pounds 6 ounces and was 21 inches long. You can see what few photos I have already by going here. We should be leaving the hospital tomorrow sometime. More to come.

House Update

March 15, 2004

Well, here we are, March 15th and still no takers on the house. This god-foresaken snow storm isn\'t going to help things either. As of today, we have had maybe 12 showings of the house, that includes scheduled appointments and open houses. We have seen the open house attendance go from 4 showings to 2 showings to last weekend where we registered the good ole fashioned goose egg. Of course, one eye stays to the calendar and and my math computes we have only 16 days to sell this place. Tonight we hit an...

HOWTO: PHP on Linux to DB2 on AIX

March 8, 2004

Ok, it's been a while since I've had a desire to make any sort of short whitepaper but some things at work have changed that. Where I work we have a number of cron scripts for various systems we support that need to communicate with our enterprise database solution in DB2. Most cases these are non-interactive programs that simply run at some odd hour of the night to prepare some data for further processing a later time. To date nearly all of this has been done via some nasty bash scripts or via Java. Both...

What Stupid People Do

March 1, 2004

OK, bare with me but this is going to be a fairly passionate rant against a neighbor that lives two buildings to the south of us. Before I get into why I am extremely upset (pissed is the right word but, hey, this is a wholesome site) a little bit of background is in order.

A couple of years ago I happen to be outside enjoying a summer evening while Hunter was in the yard running around doing his thing. The neighbor in question, refered from now on as Idiot Savant, was walking his dog which happened to...

Outdoors and Family

February 27, 2004

This afternoon I will be off to one of the far reaches of Iowa that boasts some of the best fishing in the state and this part of the country. Goody and I are off to Spirit Lake where Emerson Bay on West Okoboji will be the site of the last Ice Team Trap Attack of the season and this weekend signifies a lot to me.

With a new baby nearly here, reality is starting to set in and I know that the long leash my wife has given me will be shortened considerably as watching...

New House, well, sorta!

For those unaware, Kate and I have had a verbal acceptance on an offer we made for a house in Pleasant Hill. For those unaware, Pleasant Hill is east of Des Moines (just a few minues east of the State Fairgrounds). The offer was accepted "subject to sale" of ours so we are busting our arses to get our place on the market. To see the new place, click here. Updates on the quest to sell our place is to follow.

New Gat for Varmint

December 15, 2003

Over the coming months I will be researching Varmint Rifles. The past two years I have become a bit addicted to Coyote hunting despite my relative inability to actually kill the suckers. Regardless, I am pretty well set on the .22-250 caliber however I haven't made a decision on the make and model. I'm logging this journey in hopes that others will find the information I dig up along the way useful. Click 'read more' to begin.

Baby #2

December 9, 2003

As many of you out there in Bibbsland already know, baby #2 is on the way. Early ultrasounds revealed it is a girl leaving Kate and I at odds for names. As a conversation piece (since none of you really have a say) what good names can you come up with? Here are a few I like: 1) Jada 2) Mia 3) Faye Ones I\'m on the fence on: 1) Lauren 2) Nia Right now the two main candidates are Lauryn and Halle with the front runner being Lauryn (we have friends who\'s daughter\'s name is Halle...is the a baby name code...
