Bush Urges Americas to Save Gas!?!?

September 29, 2005

Nearly all major news sources this past week have been carrying a note from President Bush asking Americans to conserve gas.

What?

Someone tell me if I am off base here but when gas is teetering around the $3/gal mark with rumor it could hit $4/gal doesn’t that pretty much force folks to conserve gas? Folks all the way to the upper class are bringing up carpooling in water cooler conversations. But even more funny is he is saying he’ll release more natural gas from the reserve. Why? The problem with gas isn’t as much a supply problem as it is a production problem. So releasing natural gas does nobody any good until it can be turned into automotive gas.

All this brought up an interesting question that I’d like an answer to if anyone can dig it up. We all know that Bush has deep roots in the oil industry. My understanding is he still does…so my question is how much has Bush gained personally from the rising natural gas prices? I mean, he’s still got to own a few shares in the oil industry. So how much is he taking to the bank while we’re filling up our tank (gotta love the rhyme).

Oh, and while I’m on the soap box, can somebody please at least talk to the big oil companies and recommend to them that it may make a little sense to have *some* of their refineries in a place that….let’s say….won’t get hit by a hurricane? Just a thought.
